Well its be a stupidly long time since I updated this. Thing got a bit hectic and the blog kind of went on the back burner for a long time. Although, now I'm back on it and should be doing a few posts semi regularly.

Here's what i've been up to in my absence, let me know what you think.

God Damn Son of a Glitch!

Finally, we've been able to catch up with the illusive son of a glitch.  We came across him in the backwaters of the internet eating discarded computer chips, oh the life of a musician.

Kakuzi - Words and Wars (Son of a Glitch Remix) (CLIP) by Son Of A Glitch

What inspired you to start making electronic music?

I'm actually going to come right out here and admit it, at the tender age of 12 or 13…. I liked chart trance and garage, but hey, it's ok, because everyone liked shit music when they were 12, unfortunately, some of those kids never developed a taste for more complex rhythms, sonic design and the underground culture that comes with it. Poor them, wasting their youth away wearing frilly, limp collared pink shirts on sticky carpets pronouncing their utter love for 'Sandstorm' for the umpteenth time, my heart goes out to them, poor souls. Anyway, each to their own, and so I eventually got the Homemix (Argos) DJ system i'd always wanted for christmas ( a few moths ago) and that was the start of it I guess.

What are some of your key influences to your sound?

I've been influenced by so much since I started creating, maybe too much. I found the hardest thing to get away from at first was creating tracks that were completely different from each other, i'd end up attempting to recreate whatever I was into at the time, rather than taking little elements and incorporating them. I've dealt with this, somewhat, by re-using sounds from previous projects and sticking to compositional rules i've set for myself, well, for my Son of a Glitch stuff anyway.

At the moment, what is your favourite VST? Any tips or tricks from it you'd like to share with us?

Well first of, read this; http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul04/articles/synthsecrets.htm
It's a good article, read it!

So i've recently got NI Komplete, and i'm loving Reaktor and FM8 at the moment, you can do do a shitload with them. I've been teaching myself FM8 for the past couple of weeks and except for the incredible ease to make your track sound like it's spawned from the arse end of the 80's, it has some real power if you get it right.

A general tip everyone hears a lot, but doesn't stick to, 'don't use presets'! It takes time and patience, and can be extremely frustrating when the mega ripping bass sound you have in your head comes out sounding like an overly distorted/under distorted wobbly 'Massive(the synth, not the size description)' turd. But keep at it, and eventually you'll start to get it,If you become competent in designing sound from scratch, you're way ahead in standing out from the crowd.

You also play regular gigs and DJ in and around london a lot, any memories from past shows which stand out in particular?

The most memorable gig so far has got to be the infamous squat party put on by Aeon Sounds in the derelict club The Blue Orchid in Croydon. Wicked sets from Pyramid, Myself, Ohmtrix, Fused Forces, Sifi, and Buddhist Palm had the anarchic crowd going crazy, unfortunately an intoxicated idiot outside accidentally drew attention to the party and it wasn't long before old bill were pouring in through with angry faces and police dogs. Still, we'd got the most out of the party and after realising we weren't going to get our faces chewed off, 100 or so of us and watched the sunrise and partied it up in Croydon park!

Any shows on the way?

Not too much booked at the moment, the next big one is on June 10th supporting the mighty Prolix at 'Sonic Array' alongside XMPT, Resistance, Ohmtrix, Deft, Sinzilla and more, it's at the Purple Turtle in Camden.
Should be hitting some festivals this summer and plenty more to come from Aeon Sounds!

Any shout outs or last words?

Yes. Big shout outs to my elevator attendant Jaimeshk, to me internet radio DJ partner in crime Ohmtrix, Inch and Scotty from Pyramid, the entity which is Aeon Sounds, the Sonic Array collective, all the Jungle Syndicate crew, Skanky Panky Records (new release next month, go and buy it), and everyone whose involved with keeping the underground music scene vibrant! ;)

Much love to Son of a Glitch for the interview. You can hear him alongside Ohmtrix on nasty.fm every Monday night at 8 until 10.
